2 day workshop on canoe and kayak skills. 

Scouts

registered will recieve an email with a workbook to take back to their leader

Venturers: 

VA Skills – please bring the relevant paperwork

Leaders:

Online workbooks in scout e-learning 

Level 1 & level 2 workbooks for relevant skill (Canoe/kayak or both)

If you bring completed workbooks I can peer review 

Saturday`s program!

 Basic components and skills

 Paddle strokes

 Some water games

 Self and team rescues

 Legal stuff (maritime law)

 Saturday will be spend predominantly in the water not on the water so dress appropriately!

 Sunday Program

 Skill consolidation and a journey!

 Please note the weather forecast and consider the weather coming up to the weekend.

 things which will cause cancellation of the workshop

 Poor air quality from bushfire smoke (Air quality warnings in the region) 

  1. Severe flooding – potential!!
  2. Thunderstorm / lightning!! 
  3. If there is a cancellation to the workshop notification will occur via email at latest on the Thursday evening prior to the event!

Please bring the following:

 Own meals – food is not provided

  1. Dry clothes to change into at the end of the day
  2. Warm water clothes / you may want to consider a wetsuit / long sleeve and long leggings for in the water.
  3. If you have your own life jacket you are welcome to use that.
  4. Water shoes / old shoes / shoes you don’t mind getting wet
  5. Towels to dry off
  6. Hat
  7. Sunscreen (if we are lucky enough to see it) but don’t forget that even with cloud cover you can get sunburnt on the water due to the reflections
  8. Own medication if required
  9. Those suppling own equipment need to bring all own gear (Life jacket / paddle / vessel)
  10. I will have a small first aid kit in the car.

 For the journey

 Dry bag for personal belongings. And above things
