Beginner bushwalks
We are learning by doing, walking along walking trails in the Parramatta area. Learning how to prepare for, go on and reflect on our day bushwalks.

The days usually include some theory in the morning and afternoon, with focus on practical skills during the day. Each day includes a practice bushwalk with the youth rotating roles and responsibilities.

Cubs and Scouts who have already completed the foundation stages may choose to attend to refresh, consolidate and or teach others.

What to bring with you:

Bring a day pack, sun protection (surf hat, bucket hat or wide brim hat and sunscreen) wet weather gear: rain jacket, small umbrella, plastic bags. Healthy and nutritious morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch with no nuts. No uniform, comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Clipboard, pencils, pilot erasable friction pens red, blue and black, highlighter. Insect repellent, panadol, personal first aid items. Compass if you have one.

Integrated Learning:
Focus on stages 1 to 3 in the bushwalking OAS, gradually building on this.

Bundilla Scout Camp

Routes:

Sunday 6th July Pemulway Loop Northmead, Winston Hills and Old Toongabbie 5.4km (Loop)
The Pemulwuy Loop travels from Moxham Road in Northmead, to Edison Avenue, Winston Hills. It crosses Toongabbie Creek at Oakes Road, Old Toongabbie and travels along the south bank to Hammers Road, Northmead, then back up the east bank of Quarry Branch Creek to Moxham Road covering approximately 5.4km. The track surface is a mixture of natural earth as well as rock and wooden stairs.

Sunday 13th July Route Settlers Walk Northmead to Toongabbie 6km (Loop)
Settlers Walk starts near Toongabbie Railway Station and continues to Oakes Road Winston Hills where it joins the Pemulwuy Loop. It forms the most western section of the greater Toongabbie Creek Walk which links Toongabbie Railway Station to Parramatta Railway Station.

Cub Scout and Scouts bushwalking development days

We have planned a series of bushwalking development days specifically for Cub Scouts and Scouts starting in July. We encourage youth to come and try the July days as a taster. After the July days, there are further days mapped through to OAS 5, we can continue if demand exists. We would love to support a class over the next 12 months. Our aim is to keep costs to a minimum, nothing fancy and no frills.

This is the first time we have designed days mapped from OAS 1 onwards. Cubs and Scouts who have already completed the foundation stages may choose to attend to refresh, consolidate and or teach others.

The days usually include some theory in the morning and afternoon, with focus on practical skills during the day. Each day includes a practice bushwalk with the youth rotating roles and responsibilities.

We may need to add online meetings, face to face theory or practice days to suit the individual participants.

Locations are generally accessible using public transport apart from the Yarramalong end. We may request assistance with carpooling or if needed arrange a maxi taxi/transfer from the nearest railway station. If availability or access changes we can change the locations. More details are available on scout event.

Kind regards,

Tristan
