NSW public school holidays

Morton National Park, Tallong Shoalhaven River

3 day practice bushwalk. Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, Leaders with some previous experience, endurance and tolerance to summer temps. Grade 4/5, some untracked + River crossing. Due to school holidays seat availability on the Canberra train may be limited we are planning to book asap. 

Bring your opal card. Self catering applies. Water can be refilled from the river, recommend to apply treatment. Lightweight packing. Bring swimmers, boardshorts and micro towel. Bush toileting and hygiene.

Booking required for the Thursday morning service from Central to Bundanoon (NSW TrainLink 631 Central to Canberra) departing Central at 7:12 am. Check in 6:45 am. Tristan can arrange the online booking approx $30 per person. Reimburse in cash on the day.

Central 7:12 am to Bundanoon 9:06 am

Bundanoon 9:41 am to Tallong 10:07 am (SH100 Moss Vale to Goulburn Coach opal available) 

Saturday

Tallong 3:02 pm to Moss Vale 3:51 pm (SH100 Goulburn to Moss Vale Coach opal available)

Moss Vale 4:05 pm to Macarthur 5:22 pm

Macarthur Station 5:28 pm to Central 6:28 pm

Toilets:

A drop toilet is available at the lookout, bush toileting and hygiene applies in the national park.

Drinking Water:

Carry a minimum of 3 litres. Water can be refilled from the river. Recommend to apply treatment.

River Crossing:

River crossings on days 1, 2 and 3. Water levels can vary, typical level is waist deep. We will only cross if safe to do so.

Day 1 Access Road

Approx. 8 km Grade: Relatively flat Tallong Station to Long Point Lookout via Long Point Road. Walk along unsealed road with some undulation gentle rise/fall.

Day 1 Track

Approx. 7 km Grade: Steep some hard Long Point Lookout to McCallums Flat via Long Point Walking Track, Kingpin Mountain and Shoalhaven River. Full day with steep grade descent into the valley, river crossing and exploration to locate McCallums Flat. Ruins of mining and farming history.

Day 2 Track

Approx. 7 km Grade: Steep some hard McCallums Flat to Long Point Lookout via Shoalhaven River, Kingpin Mountain, Long Point Walking Track. Alternate exit via Badgerys Spur Walking Track. Full day with river crossing and steep grade ascent to the cliff line. We can decide on exit route two options Long Point and Badgerys Spur.

Day 3 Road Access

Approx. 8 km Grade: Relatively flat Long Point Lookout to Tallong Station via Long Point Road. Alternate exit via Badgerys Lookout. Walk along unsealed road with some undulation gentle rise/fall.
